Reviews: Current Releases 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon: For those who believe they aren't gonna find a good Cabernet Sauvignon from Ontario from the 2009 vintage might want to think again. This Riverview offering isn't going to be long-lived, but it is good for immediate-future consumption (2-3 years). 50% of the wine was aged in American oak, which gives the fruit plenty of backbone for the short term. Nice red and black fruit with vanilla and toasted-raspberry notes all mixed with good ready to drink tannins; all for a good price. ****, Michael Pinkus, Ontario Wine Review, March 14, 2012.2010 Cabernet Franc Icewine: A very nice version of what is becoming an icewine staple. It used to be just Vidal and Riesling were the icewine grapes of choice for winemakers, but slowly but surely Cabernet Franc is making a regular appearance and showing up those white grapes with it's red fruit offerings. 2009 Angelina's Reserve Chardonnay: Alluring, exotic and highly perfumed, beckoning aromas of honeyed pear, leesy citrus and toast abound. Citrus, crisp, green apple and tangy white grapefruit are predominant throughout. It’s mid weight, generously textured with a lip-smacking refreshing aftertaste. 2009 Angelina's Reserve Chardonnay: A gorgeous wine with green apple, tropical fruits, vanilla, toasted oak and soft spices — a real deal at $20. A lively tang on entry awakens the palate providing a segue to vibrant flavours of green apple, grapefruit and lemon. Mid-weight, taut with a zippy spine of acidity, the wine has a lengthy consistent finish. Try it with smoked salmon appetizers or with a seafood main course. 2009 Riesling Icewine: Brilliant gold, alluring and seductive, this is an absolutely delicious icewine! Enticing, lifted aromas of lemon-grass, crème brulée, pineapple, marmalade and a whiff of petrol drift from the glass. The texture is luscious yet refined—sweet, ripe fruit balanced with subtle, refreshing acidity. The balance is outstanding and the finish, reminiscent of lemon marmalade, goes on forever. Enjoy on its own or pair with strong cheese or foie gras. You’ll want to cellar a bottle or two to enjoy over the next 10 years.
